3-year-old’s fingers amputated after hand crushed at arcade in a city mall in Hyderabad

Three fingers of a three-year-old child had to be amputated after her hand was crushed in a malfunctioning arcade machine at a mall in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.

Mehwish Lubna, a child who had her fingers amputated, was at the City Center Mall with her parents on Saturday, playing in the Smash Zone on the mall's fourth floor. The child's hand was allegedly drawn into the open machine, which was not covered, when she put her hands into it, thinking it was a slot machine.

As a result, Mehwish's right hand was crushed, affecting three of her fingers. She was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital where doctors had to amputate three of her fingers.

The child's father, Syed Masood, alleged that the mall management and the smashing zone staff were negligent and said that despite the incident, no one came forward to help them. Maqsood demanded legal action against the mall management over the accident.

A case under IPC sections 337, 201 has been registered against Smash Zone at Banjara Hills police station and investigation is on.
